No, this isn't a prank.first you need the network IP then i think you need admin privleges.shutdown -m command can be used to shutdown a remote system.u should enable the force guest to have the access to shutdown the target system.u can do this using the following steps

Pictures are missing!!!?
-I was moving my pictures from my camera to my desktop, it was around 120 pictures, but not all of them showed up on the desktop, and i cut and pasted all the pictures from my camera to there, but like about 15 of them are missing, and I can't get them back because I cut them from my camera. What did the desktop do to my pictures.I'm thinking they were too many pictures for the desktop, but if it was, what happened to the other pictures? because they aren't in the camera folderall on the desktop? probably ran out of room, right click the desktop and refresh
Do you think the world would be better if there wasn't Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Myspace?
-I personally think it would. Facebook is totally ruining the world. It's ruining relationships, friendships, and families. Same for the other sites. This is only my opinion xD.
+What social networking sites do you have?
+Do you like or dislike facebook,.. if so why?
:)the world would be no better or worse without those sites. Keep in mind that the sites themselves arent the issue it's the people who use them. Noone is forced to join social networking sites and therefore shouldnt have that much of a bearing on your life. If there was no social networking people would still find was to say stupid things and do all the crazy things they blame facebook for...
Doubt it. There'd still be cell phones and ****.
And may suffering befall Jersey Shore fans.
I would be alot more healthy
I think so too.

Laptop wont connect with my ethernet?
-it detects my ethernet cable buy is says unidentified network and has a yellow triangle with a "!" in it. Whats wrong? i have windows 7.Your network connection will not be able to find a DHCP server.
That means that your network adapter wont have a valid IP to communicate to others on the network.
There is nothing else that can be done to help you without knowing how your network has been setup.
Are you trying to connect two computers with one cable for example.
get the properties of the LAN connection
click on TCP/IP
and then click properties.
make sure it has an auto DHCP
repair the connection

What is GNOME in Linux?
-ubuntu 10.04 - lucid lynx...Gnome is desktop manager. it is the application that actually give user the graphic interface between user and the Linux operating system. There are other desktop managers out there also... Fluxbox, Xfce(for xubuntu), etc.
It is a desktop environment as a GUI for Linux OS. You can imagine Linux without GNOME just like DOS in windows. GNOME are much similar with Windows except they are related to Linux through x server rather than operation system. The graphical user interface in Linux is called the X Windows system. This system uses programs called window Managers to mange the X window system and interact with the users. There are several like gnome, KDE, XFCE, FVWM, IceWM, Enlightenment etc are the Window managers. Each has its own unique look and feel. Gnome and KDE are the most popular ones. Every version of ubuntu and other linux uses one or more window managers, one at a time.

Neighbor wants to share wifi, is it safe?
-My upstairs neighbor wants to share a wifi connection so we can split the bill. If I give him my password can he access personal information, such as online debit/credit card purchases, passwords, etc?First of all, that is NOT legal. I would not do it. That is what firewalls are for. Cheating the wifi company of a few bucks will come to haunt you someday, as there is such as thing as KARMA.
There are many easy answers but they are not necessarily the right answers. Do things the right way, you'll be happy with yourself in the long run.
Do NOT give anyone your password unless it's your spouse.
If you know the person well, like a really good friend or if they're family or something, i personally would. But i didnt know them too well i would say f ck no! They could be hackers or some sh*t! Haha! :) Im positive that there is a way to get to your personal info though. But anyway its up to you! Good luck!
The #1 problem with it is that if he does something illegal on your internet, the FBI will be knocking on your door, not his. =/ If you know him good, go for it, other wise no.
If he uses that connection for any illegal activity like hacking then you will be held responsible for that. Your connection only will be traced.
No it is not safe. Say that they illegaly download music or anything else then your ip address would come up and therefore you can be hold accountable.
You will be fine, as long as you keep your password router access different from your account's password.
No he can't access any of that. He will only be able to use the internet. If he is gonna pay half then I would go for it

IPod Touch and Verizon Wi-fi Help!!!?
-Ok so I have an Ipod touch, when I got it I had nooo problem connecting it to my Verizon wi-fi (I used the wep address off my router) , a little less than a year later all of a sudden the wi-fi disconnected, and now when I enter the wep address from my router my Ipod won't work!!!!!!!! Please help! How can I connect my Ipod to the wi-fi again????!Try turning off your router for a bit. That resets it and usually fixes things.
Or you might have to call Verizon. That's what I had to do, when I first bought my ipod.

I have just started my CCNA ( and was wondering what a good ( cable) modem and a good router to help me learn?
-I have just started my CCNA ( and was wondering what's a good ( cable) modem and a good router to help me learn thanksYou could look for 2500 series routers, they should be pretty cheap. try looking on ebay. Why the hell would you need a cable modem for your CCNA? They're typically locked down to the point where you can't do anything with them in the first place.
As for a router, if you think you're going to practice for your CCNA with a friggin' off-the-shelf home router, think again. Hunt down an old Cisco 2600 series router and get the proper cable and a terminal emulator.
If you go to cisco.com, they have some free learning tools. You have to sign up, but it's free. Also instead of purchasing a cisco router, you can download a cisco emulator. An emulator will let you practice configuring the router. It is the same software that is on a hardware router except you can't plug a physical device into it.

Is a network adapter card faster than a usb network adapter?
-I'm planning to buy a new desktop, but it can't connect wirelessly to my internet. So, I was just wondering if a network adapter card is faster than a usb network adapter. For actual throughput, wired is always faster than wireless (in 95%+ of the cases)

I have a wireless router can i plug it into my computer without internet to pick up my internet connection?
-i don't have a pci card, so i was wanting to know if i could just use the router to get internet in another room, never used a router before so still learning. i have comcast internet, so is this possible?A wireless router is designed to "route" or distribute an internet signal. Most wireless routers have both a wireless and a wired component. The wireless part operates just like a two-way radio or a cordless phone - you need to have a wireless radio card (modem) in or attached to your computer in order to be able to communicate with the router. Now the wired part is similar, except that the internet signals are carried through ethernet cables, rather than by radio waves. Most computers newer than five years have an ethernet card built in. You will need a CAT-5 cable to connect your computer to your router, assuming your router has an ethernet output connection. If not, you'll have to buy a USB wireless adapter.
hahaha do you mean Free Internet access from kool neighbors? LOL
the answer would then be YES.... connect your router and get it as close as possible to the window and pray that any of your neighbors left their wireless routers unsecured :)
It they did, you now have a way to get online, mate! haha-

How do you convert bandwidth to link cost for Cisco switches?
-This is the bandwidth to cost conversion. but i want to know exactly how to do it.
Bandwidth Cost
===================
4 Mbit/s 250
10 Mbit/s 100
16 Mbit/s 62
45 Mbit/s 39
100 Mbit/s 19

200 Mbit/s 12
622 Mbit/s 6
1 Gbit/s 4
2 Gbit/s 3
10 Gbit/s 2
20 Gbit/s 1
Thanks for your helpThose are the default spanning tree port cost values, not OSPF cost numbers.
For spanning tree cost calculation, it's actually not standardized. Those values come from the IEEE's 802.1D specification, which gives recommended values for switch vendors to follow but does not define a formula to use.OSPF Comoputes the cost by using this formula: COST = Reference Bandwith / Link BW ( in Mbps )
By default, Reference BW = 100Mbps
You can change the reference bandwidth by going into the router ospf process and issuing the "auto-cost reference-bandwidth <new reference bandwidth in mbps>"
The Bandwidth cost you specified above, means that the Reference bandwidth has been change from the default 100Mbps to 4000Mbps, using these series of commands:
router ospf <process number>
auto-cost reference-bandwith 4000
exit
Hope that helps :)

What is an Magnet Link?
-10 points=good answerhttp://www.ghacks.net/2010/06/05/what-is鈥?/a>
"A Bittorrent magnet link contains all the information needed to start downloading the files from peers directly. It is a server-less way of retrieving the right information to start downloading the requested files. A magnet link therefor is theoretically all that is needed to download files from other peers in the Bittorrent network. Magnet links can be distributed by email, messaging and other forms of communication but are most often found on the torrent sites that usually offer both torrent and magnet links to their users." . .

Is 1.5 MB/S fast for download speed?
-I'm downloading a game on Steam and it says its downloading at a rate of 1.5MB/s. Is that fast? What is the average internet speed when downloading a game? And why does the Internet sometimes disconnect and reconnect when someone calls our phone? Thank you for the help.Thats slow as hell, considering it takes at least 6 mbps to stream from netflix without buffering. Average depends on what your paying for through your ISP. And you have ****ty phone service if it disconnects when you get a call.

Downloaded alot of movies from pirate bay.........?
-I downloaded over like 20 movies(and counting) from pirate bay so i can pass the summer lol. But what are the chances of me getting caught?Absolutely non. The website however may get into a little trouble with the law but no one can do anything to you because you downloaded movies from their site.
As long as you watch to see when they finish downloading and don't seed, you won't get caught.
You can't get in trouble for downloading, only seeding back.

To block user to install software, you can give the userpermission as normal user. To do this Just follow the following steps.
Goto MyComputer Icon in desktop
right click then select manage
Then click on the Local users and Group
Click the users.
then right click on the corresponding username
Go to Properties Tab
Remove the administration privileges then add "users"
This will avoid the users to install software.Set the user as Power User instead of Administrator

Mac Internet Connection Slow?
-My mac loads websites much slower than my iphone. Both on the same wifi, anyone know what i can do?Your Mac has no virus protection software scanning ever at all, unless you decided to download and install something.
iOS (the system on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch) is pared down and does not load at the same size as OS X and the Safari for OS X. A Windows 7 system will be just as slow as your Mac (as the other answerer suggested). You cannot make a computer load web pages as fast as a phone.

How to Disable UTorrent? (Temporarily)?
-My university gave me a warning since uTorrent uploads files in the background (I'm guessing). So whenever I'm connected to the university network, I would like to temporarily disable uTorrent completely.
Also, I strongly urge you not to ***** about any moral obligations.
Thanks in advance!
JCDisable utorrent on statup so it doesnt connect 'at all'.. then just manually start it when required...
to disabled auto startup
in 碌Torrent: CTRL+P -> General -> uncheck "Start 碌torrent on system startup" at Windows Integration
when u need to temporarily exit.. right click the green U icon in the system tray and click exit to completley exit the program...Well, right click the uTorrent icon at the taskbar and click exit. It should close down. Afterwards, when u want to start it, simply click on the shortcut in the desktop.(I suppose there is a shortcut in the desktop)

Does ISP have right to see what i have been doing when i have unlimited download?
-Is my ISP allowed to see what i do and what i download, because i use the internet A LOT like more than 1 gig everyday from watching YouTube videos to downloading movies and video from I-tunes surfing lots and lots of website. But it made me question if my isp has nay right to see what i have been doing like what fie have download or what website i have visited
even though im on a plan for unlimited download and they should be expecting me to use a lot of Information (be a waste of money not downloading and using no internet)
if so What if my privacy is being broken i don't want my isp to know what i have been browsing because sometime have have homework and so forth about guns and etc
bottom do you thing my ISP will be looking at my download patter even though i use more than 1 gig a day? do you believe it is a break of privacy of my provider knowing what I've been watching?Really? Newsflash: Every site you visit is logged by your ISP. This has NOTHING to do with your internet plan. Nobody is sitting there and monitoring you. It's all logged automatically. It's not a breach of privacy. Deal with it.
Collinc, they aren't legally obligated to maintain 2 years of records, but the US government has tried to mandate that before. For now, they simply encourage it, but 2 years for a major ISP is one helluva load to carry.if you want privacy when downloading their are some programs i forgot the name of it sorry it hides your ip when downloading be careful most of them are scam
They are legally obliged to record all your activity going out through their connection for 2 years.

Ok please someone help me. Im in alot of trouble and I need help from someone who knows this stuff?
-ok so i was writing things on peoples formspring and they said they are gonna pay someone to track the IP address of it through the admins or something. And then they are gonna use my ISP to know who i am. Please help. is there a way to stop them from tracking my IP address or anything i can doUse a proxy like:
http://hidemyass.com/
When you use a proxy, you can surf the web and its doesn't give away your isp and it also doesn't add the websites you visit to your history(:
Oh one more thing, they CAN'T track you, if you don't go online (visit websites) so if you don't use your web browser (Firefox,Internet Explorer, Opera, etc) , your good.
Oh yeah i also forgot, if they have access to the administrator to see who posted the posts, then you're screwed lol when you post anything on a website, you are practically telling them your ip address
You also seem like person who has no idea what an ip is, its just numbers that identify your computer online, also don't worry your isp is not just going to give away your personal info to strangers, its IMPOSSIBLE it was probally just a scam advertisement you saw on a website and believed it.
well, you could call you internet provider and tell them that someone is planning to hack your IP? or tell your parents so they can deal with it.
Switch off your modem.. Its the best way to keep yourself safe...

I have no local area connection?
-I am trying to connect to my internet via an ethernet cable, i have always used a wireless adaptor but since changing to sky my internet is so slow, i want to try a wired connection. But i plugged in the ethernet and nothing happened, going off some advice ive seen online i opened 'network connections' and there is no local area connection. In my device manager there is something called ''Realtek Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC'' and it says 'driver cannot start' can anyone help? im not very good at computer stuff so please explain it like im 5 or something... thank you :)If you have a tower or a desktop try this. Turn off the computer, switch off at the mains press the "on" button on the tower or desktop to discharge any remaining power. Switch on the power at the mains and turn on your PC and see if it is cured.
If that fails I would go back to device manager and update the drivers to the newest, they can be had from the Realtek website you will need the exact model of your NIC

What is the computer term 'The Cloud'?
-What is the computer term 'The Cloud' and why is it so good?It references certain companies that store data over the interent. For example, Google Docs uses "a cloud" to store its information. It can only be accessed if you are connected to the interent. The information isn't actually stored in a cloud, but the many company's buildings that hold the information. Another example is soon to come out, Apple's cloud. Go to its website to see more. Cisco is a company that does cloud storage for other people/company.It's a general concept where a service provider provides some kind of service and the finer details of how it is implemented are not the concern of the user, in fact they can't usually even determine many of them even if they are interested. So for example, we may talk about a network cloud - you don't know about the individual links, switches and routers that make up that network, you just know that if you send a properly addressed packet into the cloud at one point it will re-emerge from the cloud at the destination. It is the service provider that has the job of monitoring utilisation, installing extra capacity, and managing equipment failures: those details are largely invisible to you as a customer.
Current marketing speak tends to use it to mean hosted application platforms. This could mean a virtual system running on a machine owned by the service provider and running your operating and applications, or it may mean an individual service that is contracted out to an external provider to provide - email servers and databases are common examples. In these cases you know little about the physical location of the servers, the kind of hardware they are run on, or even how your server may be switched from machine to machine to allow for hardware upgrades, equipment failures and so on. All you see is the remote machine or service and are able to make use of it - the low level details are not your concern and managed by the provider.

without a cloud, a web server runs as a single computer click the link and read about it

Gigabit routers???--what's the difference, what can they do better?
-If I have a wired ethernet connection, with AT&T 6 Mbps max speed, would I get any benefit out of getting a Gigabit router?
Why is a gigabit router better? who needs one?If you're using it to network two local computers you can benefit from the speed (as long as both computers can handle the speed).

Is it bad to use unsecured wifi?
-the apartment complex i'm in has unsecured default wifi. it's free and fast but is it bad for my computer? Not bad for the computer, but bad for you. Anyone else connected to that wireless can sniff all your network traffic, and steal your user ids and other personal information. Worst yet, if it's a hacker that is running that wireless (they do that...), they will be logging everything from all the users, and doing things like stealing identity of those users... Another danger is that if any other computer using the wireless is infected with a virus that spreads via the network (via Windows exploits), your machine may be at risk unless you have a good firewall and AV installed on your system.
Bottom line, using an unsecured wireless IS dangerous to your privacy - consider it open to anyone, and that all can see what you do. So, if all you do is surf the internet or watch youtube videos, you may be somewhat safe. Never "log into" anything when using an open wireless.
not necessarily, you do have to be careful though.
If you are visiting secure sites, then the wifi is irrelevant because the assumption of secure transaction over the internet is that if a malicious user sees the data you send they will not be able to comprehend the meaning of the data...i.e. they won't be able to read your password (because the actual data will not look anything like plain text).
So what you need to be careful of is sending information unsecurely, which most things will do. For instance, the stuff I'm typing right now is probably not encrypted. But anytime you give your password, that should be secure.
Best thing to do if is open is always do HTTPS like https://www.facebook.com, https://www.twitter.com and make sure you have a VERY strong firewall!
And if is open by default and not like a company name such as btopenzone, the cloud, starbucks then find out whos wireless is it and tell them they need to padlock there wireless connection as anyone with a laptop can sniffer the connection
Hope i have help out a little. =)
the TOP contributor answer is right... but all you have to do is to protect your computer by latest antivirus..firewall and keep them up to date by the same wireless internet ;) and enjoy using it until the wireless honor wont protect it... because if he/she cant access your computer by strong security so he/she will must stop giving you internet :)
and remember don't accept any file or such kind of thing.
Its not that bad, until the FBI knock on your door because according to records, your IP/internet address were used to hack the banks.
people can see your public files on your computer. 90 percent of appartments your really got nothing to worry about. mostly just a privacy issue
It wont harm ur comp.
BUT
People outside ur house can use it and download things
Password protect ur WiFi and get anti virus software (even if u download it for free)

Modems and routers are they the same?

Windows 7 - Access denied to change lid action?
-I have recently bought a new laptop with windows 7 on it. Let me tell you i am so lost with this damn windows 7!
I want to be able to change the action for when i close the lid. I went to the microsoft website, watched a cool video thingy but i didnt have the access to change anything!
I also want to be able to change the power plan and i cant figure out how to do that either.
the reason why i want to change it from sleep when i close lid to do nothing, is that i download stuff overnight and dont want it turning itself off in the process!!
Please help!right click the battery icon that shows your battery life if you have a laptop and edit power settings.......or go to control panel and click power settings on a pc
you can then create a custom power plan or edit existing ones and I had the problem at first too but trust me windows 7 is VERY user friendly and you will get used to it fast!
If your access is denied like the title implies you need to use the computers main account (the admin account to change it, beyond that there is NO reason for it to deny you those rights.)
EDIT: Yes, if you have only one account it is the Admin account... if you are receiving a popup message when you attempt to open power settings, please post what it says on here and I will help you troubleshoot further.
BUT it should be as easy as right clicking the battery icon and selecting power options.

My new Linksys Wireless N Router doesn't work =(?
-So I bought the router along with my computer and everything else. After installing my computer I tried installing the router but in the setup it always says that I failed the last step (plugging the router into a power outlet). I wait for the god damn thing to pick it up but it gives me an error message =(. I know it's plugged in since all the lights show up and stuff.
Then it hit me that my computer wasn't wireless so I bought a Netgear Wireless N USB Adapter and now my computer is wireless. So I installed the Linksys Router again but I still can't pass the last step!!!
BTW I tried setting it up like at least 30 times and made sure I followed all the other stepscheck properly all ports.and reset first to start .manually configure by console port ,try for remote login.

Can peerblock blocks all those IP when downloading with utorrent?
-Yes and no.
YES:
Peerblock will block some IP addresses (the categories that you choose to block)
I believe you are asking will it keep me safe from MPAA/RIAA ect pinging/tracking my downloads/uploads. This is where we get to the no part of the answer
NO:
Peerblock is simply just a giant library of known IP address. The key word here is KNOWN. If the MPAA/RIAA ect wanted to track you they would just use an IP address that is not in this giant library/database (peerblocker). And yes they know which of their IP address are blocked and which are not (they have access to all peerblockers as well)
---------------------------------------鈥?br>
My Opinion:
Peerblocker is just a waste of RAM. It can cause lots of firewall problems and can lead to further security issues. If you are trying to be safe about downloading the best thing to do is to find a download site that is secure. What I mean by this is members ONLY and to become a member an invite is required. This helps keep torrents/servers secure from others tracking uploads/downloads. (A majority of people that are caught illegally uploading are done so because the MPAA/RIAA just download the file themselves and then tracks and logs the IP addresses. They have software to do all this for them. You can even do this yourself using the trackers and peers section of each file you have in uTorrent)
Hope this helps..sorry its so long..wanted to make sure you understand what a waste it really is

What are some good internet service providers in Canada?
-Rogers is money down the drain :(
I need better, cheaper internet service providers, in Toronto.
Anyone know of them?

I unhooked my CPU and I am still receiving a wireless signal from my router?
-I thought in order for the router to work, there had to be 2 computers. I took my desk top to get more memory. This question makes no sense.
Why do I only get half the speed I should get with my DSL?
-I have 6Mbps AT&T and my fastest download speed I have ever got was 350kb/s shouldnt it be more like 600kb/s. Oh and if this helps I have 2 computers a brand new core i5 sandy bridge laptop and an older computer with a pentium 4 desktop. I mostly use the laptop on wireless and the desktop wired and I get the same speed on both. I am getting mad that I upgraded to the fastest internet connection from one of the slowest and my speed hasnt increased that much. I had 1.5Mbps and I get about the same speed since I switched
Why is my internet speed so slow?
-So I just dropped AT&T as my ISP, and switched to broadband. They told me my download speed would be 15mbps (2mbps upload speed) (through a cable connection I believe). They came and set it up with a new modem, etc, and yet I checked my speed from 3 different sources (one was a game installer which tells you how fast the game downloads, and the other two were online internet speed tests) and I'm only getting around 3/4 of a megabyte and 1.2 mbps.... so that's like.... 15 times as slow as it should be. And I just had them come back and check and they left (I wasn't home, but someone else was) and low and behold it is still hovering just around 1.5mbps.... so what is the problem? Is it just them not knowing how to do their jobs or what? What should I do to fix this problem? Do I need to call the company again? You're not reporting your units accurately, so it's really hard to make sense of your problem. mbps, Mbps, and MB/sec are all completely different units.
15Mbps, which is your line speed, is about equal to 1.7MB/s. When you download something, your speed is generally reported in MB/s (or MB/sec), not Mbps. Line speeds and download rates are not the same. Decimal units and binary units are not the same. Bits and bytes are not the same. It is important to report units *exactly* as shown.
Go back and look at the download speeds. I bet you'll find they're MB/s or MB/sec and not Mbps.Configure the network settings properly. For example, only enable those web features that you really require. If you are an advanced user, you may do this task manually. Or otherwise, it is suggested to use an internet optimizer software. Using Reginout internet optimizer, select your internet speed, then click Analyze | Optimize.
You have to disable the unwanted add-ons and extensions. Open Internet Explorer, click Tools | Manage Add-Ons. Select an add-on that you don't require, and click "Disable" button.
if you have a wireless router make no one is on your network and contact your provide again the problem is on there end threaten to cancel service if they can not offer the speed they promised
1.5mbps that's incredibley slow

-please tell me steps to clear this problemIs this cable or DSL? If it's DSL, it's because something is connected to your phone line without a proper DSL filter. It's easy to miss an alarm system, satellite TV receiver, answering machine, or cordless phone base station. Every device connected to your phone line must have a DSL filter.

Wireless Broadband Tweak?
-I'm using a globe tattoo broadband e1552. My operating system is Windows 7 32 bit. I have also a strong signal. I tried finding tweaks via google to improve the speed of my internet connection. As I applied it, none of them work for me. I also tried Full Speed software, again it didn't worked out. Can anyone help me how to tweak my broadband?Broadband ISPs control the speed at their end, via their routers and firewalls. There is no software out there that can speed things up by loading software on your computer. Speeds are totally controlled by the ISP.
How do i change the password of an account on a domain im not connected to?
-I got my mums work computer after she left and have been using her account made on the work domain (rather than an account on the computer) but now i need to change the password and there is no way for me to connect to the account.
How do i do it?You can't. the only way to do anything is to move the machine out of the domain and into a workgroup. To do this you need it to be an account which would have had admin rights to the domain. Go to Start and right click computer. Then select properties and in the advanced tab select the computer name section and then the change sextion to give the machine a workgroup name. If this refuses due to no admin rights or incorrect password, te only way is to re-install the machine from scratch.

HOW DO I REMOVE THIS CABLE!!?!?!?
-I need steps in order to remove the computer cable from my Gateway Hardrive and Computer monitor. It's a 2-sided cable and it locks into the hardrive and computer monitor. The wire says "AWM E101344 STYLE 2990 VW-1 80'C 30V SPACE SHUTTLE-C LOW VOLTAGE COMPUTER CABLE" and my computer was manufactured in September 2002. The ends of the cable are blue and are rectangular and have 2 little screw like things on the tops. I realllly need help!!! Whoever replies a working method on how to remove these cables without ruining the cable or computer soonest i will rate "best answer". Somebpdy pleaseeee help!!It is a VGA cable also called a D-sub cable. you can confirm from this image :
http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield鈥?/a>
This can easily be disconnected. Turn the screw like things in an anti-clockwise direction, till it is completely loose. Generally no screw driver is needed for this operation. Use your index finger and thumb. Once both the screws are completely loose gently pull out the connector. Repaeat the same procedure on the other end.
This cable is not connected to your hard drive. It is connected to the video signal output of your computer and carries the video signals to the monitor.

What your talking about seems to be a VGA cable.
http://www.bargainbytes.net/catalog/VGAc鈥?/a>
I assume by Gateway Harddrive you mean the PC itself.
The trick is to twist the 2 little screws like unsrewing something, once you unscrew them the cable should come lose. Both screws on each side must be loosened to remove both ends.
im assuming by harddrive you mean your pc tower if its a VGA cable then turn the "2 little screw like things on the tops" this will loosen the cable an let you remove it from your monitor
Is it an ethernet cable? If not, Im not sure.
Loosen the screws

I'm connected to the internet but I can't access webpages.?
-Okay so when I am at home I can connect to the internet wirelessly just fine and yesterday I could connect easily to the internet at work. Tonight I cannot and it says that I am connected to my work's network, but my IPv4 Connectivity and IPv6 Connectivity says No Internet Access. Media State is Enabled, the Speed yesterday was 56Mbps and now it is 12.0Mbps, and Signal Quality is Full. I checked my drivers and they are all up to date. Also I get error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed outGo to menus, network connections and make sure the wireless is enabled.
Why does my WiFi connection keep disconnecting?
-what can be happening? btw i'm on my laptopmake sure you're not accidentally pressing the wifi button somewhere on your laptop
if thts not it, go to your wifi network settings and set it so it automatically connects to the network you want
last, make sure your router is plugged in well, n reboot it a couple of times
if these basics dnt work u shood get it checked by sumone
They could beworking out your internet in your area. For example if you have comcast they could be working on it because it might be out in your area.Or you might need to get a new router if you had that one for a while.Sorry if you couldnt understand it , i didnt know how to exxplain it.

Does anyone know a good wireless dongle for a windoes 7 64 bit Computer?
-I am about to buy the Acer Predator G5900 but it does not have wireless! So I have been looking for a wireless dongle but not sure if any of them will work with my router or New computer!
If this helps my Router is a Netgear but not sure if that makes a diffrence.
Thanks in AdvanceYour router does matter, You really need to have a wireless N or N+ capability in both the router and the wireless connector for best speed and data transfer
By the way that overpriced under performer really sucks you could have bought a much better PC for the price. Send it back and get something better The only thing it has going for it is it looks like a mean performer Pity that it isn't.
You are English?? So why do you use a dumb spelling of Windows??
doesn't really matter what router you have, as long as it is a wireless router and it is indeed connected to the internet. buy this one, it is the highest rated:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>
and it's only 20 bucks.
Order it from Komplett, you can get it anywhere in Europe. didn't know you were in england.

What could be causing this?
-i have two computers, a desktop and a laptop
my lap top is fine but my desktop has no internet service
i checked the connections
what are some things that can cause this??
i rebooted my router with no lucksometimes metal roofs can cause it, or if you have too many different computers connecting to one router.
try using a cable to connect to your desktop (thats what i had to do), because you dont need to have it wireless anyway (bc its a desktop...)You really need to re-post with some more information before we can give you a reasonable answer.
How is your system set up? Who is your ISP?
Model number and manufacturer of modem
Model number and manufacturer of router
How is the laptop connected?
How is the desktop connected?
Once we know these basic facts we can help you troubleshoot the system.
Otherwise, all you get are wild guesses

What is a Network Switch and how does it work?
-if i have 2Mbps speed and i have connected 8 computers with switch than how much speed do all the computer will get same time if all computer are running at same time, do all computer will get 2Mbps speed or less than that?
thank youIt totally depends what the other computers / devices are doing so say if computer 1 was download a .exe file that would slow down the reset of the computers on the network, Again it all depends on how fast is downloading so that why a feature of QoS (Quality of service) is better in place to balance the bandwidth but you only get that some routers and switches.
Hope i have helped a little.

CAN'T connect to Motel Wi-Fi!!!?
-Ok. So if it matters, im in the city of Costa Mesa, California. With my laptop, today i've been easily able to connect to Wi-Fi connections in such places as Starbucks and McDonalds. The problem is that the Motel im staying at DOES offer Wi-Fi (the connection shows up on the list of Wireless Connections nearby), but every time I try to connect, I get a little pop up window at the bottom that reads "Windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network" and the Status of the connection just stays at "Validating Identity"
What can I do here? Is there something I can do on the laptop? This place isn't necessarily a well known place so I have a feeling complaining to the foreign people at the front desk isn't going to get me anywhere.
Any QUICK help is greatly appreciated.

Help with Linux Ubuntu 11.04?
-So I have Linux Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my computer. I have pretty much customized in every way to my liking except one thing. I really wanted to have widgets like in windows vista/7 or Yahoo Widgets. But I know that Yahoo Widgets is not native to Linux. I have tried one program from the software center but I didn't like the set up. I have also tried Plasma Desktop KDE and ran Kubuntu but I like the interface of Ubuntu more. Is there anyway to get some kind of widgets for my OS. ThanksScreenlets or GDesklets will work. Look for them in Ubuntu's Software Center.
You could check out Opera Widgets. I haven't tried any of them myself so I can't speak to their merits or flaws.

What is the best Wireless router for gaming & HD Video streaming?
-I'm looking for a router that can handle HD video streaming & Online gaming.Ain't got anything to do with the router. ANY router is more than fast enough to game or watch streaming video. It's your internet package that is important. If you have some crappy 1 mbps download package, a router isn't going to make it faster. Secondly, if you are looking for the best in online gaming, a wireless router of ANY type is a poor choice. Data ALWAYS travels better through a conductor than it does air.
Ubuntu vs windows whats all the hype?
-whats the good and bad with ubuntu linux vs windowsWindows is pretty much the industry standard so most applications will work in it, however with Linux you get more freedom on the configuration of your desktop and software, better security (free of malware), and a faster/more stable system. There are tons of more differences between the two operating systems as you can see from the responses here, but those are the main differences IMHO.
I would recommend a first time user of Ubuntu dual boot with Windows just like you're doing and expect a steep learning curve as you adapt to doing things differently than you would in Windows. Avoid reinstalling the operating system when you run in to troubles. Instead boot in to Windows and see if your problem can be fixed (95% of the time it can).
PlayOnLinux does an excellent job at configuring WINE to work with various Windows applications, including games. It is one of my favorite applications to use when I want to get something installed on WINE. WineTricks is another good program to keep under your belt if you're interested in running applications under WINE.
http://code.google.com/p/winetricks/
WineTricks and PlayOnLinux both can be found in the Ubuntu Software Center.
I have been running Linux for many years. No Windows box in my house for about 10 years now. In the time I have been running linux I have had no problems with virus/trojans etc. Also never needed to reboot to cure a frozen computer, and never needed to reformat/reinstall due to "performance issues". Also Linux is very innovative. Many features of windows are taken from ideas that have been implemented in Linux for a while already.
I also like to experiment with web based software, and LInux gives me the chance to run everything I want for this free of charge. It is the same software that runs on the majority of servers on the web already, and I can be sure that code I write for a LInux based site will run exactly the same on Windows.
All of this is great, but the thing I like most is the open philosophy of GNU/Linux. All pretty political, and takes a while to really understand the implications, but a very healthy approach in my opinion.
On the downside, LInux is badly supported for commercial gaming, but I have XBox and Wii for this, so it's no problem :D
Overall a Linux based platform can perform most of the tasks equally as well as a proprietary platform using the likes of Ubuntu and its derivative distros. However Linux does have its limitations with some applications and in particular gaming. For example I retain a dedicated Windows partition to run specific applications such as Office 2010 etc.
I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 9 LTS which is built upon Ubuntu 10.04 LTS its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

First the meaning of the word Ubuntu. In some African villages it is the custom of every home to keep one meal as a reserve for any stranger who may walk in unannounced. This is known as Ubuntu. It also means humanity, helping others etc. There is a video clip of Nelson Mandela explaining Ubuntu on the internet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODQ4WiDsE鈥?/a>
I am using Linux for last 16 years and not on a single occassion was it infected by virus or malware. I am presently using Ubuntu 10.10 and it is 20% faster on the internet compared to windows.
But if your main interest is games then go for Windows only. Linux is poor where games are concerned. Also for some of the peripherals like scanners and USB TV tuners no drivers are available in Linux.
In conclusion I will say Linux is Stable, flexible and versatile. And "Linux is free as in freedom".
Ubuntu is not for everybody,it can be complex and you have to live with alternatives or limitations. On the other side there is nothing that won't work with windows

Any way to slow down my parents internet?
-Hey i want to start playing xbox live but we dont have cable internet we have mobile internet or broadband which is we can take our computers anywhere and have internet. My parents dont want to switch because they have no problems with it. But is there a way i can give them a ''problem'' like slow down their internet? so they will switch. How would it be done? I would be able to do something to there computer because i know my dads computer password if thats what it will take. hit me back.If you don't like their choice of internet, then get a job and start paying for cable internet yourself.
If you're too young or too lazy to get a job, then stop complaining and enjoy something which is basically provided to you for free.
You can't slow the Internet its self but you can make the illusion the Internet sucks by twisting and tangling the cord were the Internet goes through.
IP flood your IP or your local host which is most likely 127.0.0.1 but it will lag you too.
GO BUY YOUR OWN!!! GET A JOB AND THEN GET YOUR OWN!! OTHERWISE HUSH IT!!

What exactly are servers and game servers?
-Everything there is to know about them. No links.Ok, when you play an online game it has to run threw something, Like having multiple people playing off one xbox. People run there controllers(computers) to the server(xbox) and they play it threw there. for example online COD. It hosts the website or game server. Its a rally point to converge it all together when playing. A server can also host a website, same thing, they get the info from this server instead of getting it from your computer. Lynx is a type of gaming server.
A game server is the "thing" (poorly put) that transfers all the game info to gland from who ever is playing that game. So say you are playing blacks and ur dead. The server transmits what going on on you teammates screen to you (spectating)

How do I make a coax bridge over a network?
-This is an odd situation and I am not sure there is a solution out there but I thought I would try. I have a satellite dish that I need to connect to a device in another house. This isn't related to satellite tv but rather data. Is there hardware available that can transmit a coax connection over a network to create a bridge? I have seen similar devices for a serial connection in which a device encodes the signal and transmits it over a network to a receiving device that decodes the signal. I need to do this but just with a coax connection. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks
IP address locator website?
-Do you know a real website which can look up IP addresses and find the address with out having to pay? I am not a stalker or anything lol but I am buying a pet online from a small breeder & want to know whether that person is reliable & is telling the truth about where she is/lives. I don't want to give the money to a scammer. Thank you in advance! :)you can use http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip-lookup
it doesnt work for me but it might work for youu. dnt knowFor legal reasons, there is no such web site. It is against privacy laws to publish people's IP addresses. About the best you can do is to be able to tell what ISP has given them the address. That will give you a general location for the person. For example, it they are given the IP by an ISP in Phoenix, they are most likely somewhere in Arizona. But that is about as close as you can get.
http://ws.arin.net/whois/ is a site that will tell you who owns an IP address (the ISP or company it belongs to). That is as close as you can normally legally get to who is using an IP address.

Is there a psychological explanation to why some people feel sadness after beating a game?
-I was just wondering why so I and apparently other people feel sorta depressed for a short time after beating a game .
I mean games like Modern Warfare 1 & 2,Fable 3,Mass Effect ect.
These games assuming some of you had played and beaten probably felt type of sad and empty
Why is that?
Shouldn't we feel success or something.
PS:Don't act all mature and tell me to get a life Ok,playing a game is no different than reading a book,it's a whole new world you learn about, there is a storyline and an ending....I believe books are no different....but none on that subject.....
Like i've asked...what is the psuchological explanation on to why sometimes we feel sadness instead of happiness when we beat a long game with a deep storyline?Well, you've been exited and doing your best to beat the game. You obviously enjoy yourself when you're playing a good game, so when it's over, you're sad. No, I have no idea what chemicals in the brain caused this.
its like end of story as movie and when good movie ends ur seen out of the working world that u feel and soon unrealising it u feel sad for a little time

I m arts student and can i do hardware & networking ?
-I am a student of arts and higher secondary pass. i want to do carrier course hardware & networking. so after this course can i do m.sc ? pl.z . coment if there is some probleme ..i thanks to u ..Here's what I would do. I know your country has different rules about degrees and courses than the USA, but I would ask the dean of the college or some department heads of the m. sc department you wish to go to in order to see if there are some specific requirements you can take care of now so you will have the best chance of being accepted into their department.
Logically, there is no reason you can't have an undergrad in arts and grad degree in hardware and networking as long as you meet the requirements. If you are interested in web design or desktop publishing, all the better, for having an arts degree.

No u cannot persue science while persuing comerce..and hardware networking course deals in computer so u can join this course coz the eligibility is higher secondary pass.
yes there may be some problems but still manageable you just try for it.

Computer says wifi is working. but no web pages load?
-Did the computer tap you on the shoulder, and say "pardon me Sir, but your wireless is working"?
Or did you make some assumptions?
We need more specific information to help you.Two different things.
The wifi is the wireless connection from your PC to your router/modem. That connection can be fine, but the modem needs a connection to the internet. Try rebooting it. If that fails, check the settings.

How does an ISP like Rogers define "download"?
-I would like to get to the bottom of this, my plan says that I'm allowed to download 60GB, however, it said I went over by 13GB. I did not download much during the month of June, but the account says that I've been downloading 7 GB a day. What I downloaded during that billing period were only 15GB of games like TF2 and LoL. So I would like to ask: what does the ISPs like Rogers define as downloading?
Limited Access to a Wifi Connection?
-I'm at a friends house and I tried to connect to his wifi and it seems that it searched it fine, but it has full bars but has a triangle with an exclamation point in it. It says "Unidentified Network" and under that "No Network Access"
When I open it it says his internet routers name and then Limited Access with full bars next to it.
I've connected to all kinds of different wifi connections fine, why am I having problems with this one and how can I fix it?
I have the correct security key and we already tried to unplug the router and plug it in again, It didn't do anything or change it.
I am using a Compaq Laptop.
Please help, I would like it as soon as I can use it.
Thanks.hahaha

My Modem is a Modem/Router. But I would much rather use my existing router instead. How do I do that? (DESC)?
-My actual router is much faster then the modem router. Please help, I will choose best answer.Connect as local device or bridge - If connecting the second router via Ethernet cable, plug it into one of the LAN ports on the first router. If connecting the second router wirelessly, ensure the second router is set for client mode. Note that some home wireless routers do not support client mode; these must be connected by cable. Check your router documentation for details on its client mode configuration support.
Check / change IP address - Most home network routers use a default IP address setting. Often, these default IP addresses will not work in a two router environment. Check the second router's IP address value and reset it if necessary to work within the valid address range of the first router (and to not conflict with any other device on the network).
Disable DHCP - To avoid IP address conflicts between all of the devices on the home network, only one of your two routers should assign addresses via DHCP. All mainstream routers provide an option to disable DHCP as part of the router's configuration screens.
...then buy an additional "modem"..which does not have a Router....then plug your Router between the Modem and your PC..
Call the ISP and ask them to turn off the router. I did that and as a result, can use VPN with work.

How can I reconnect to my server?
-The server for my work was showing up in My Computer (Windows 7) however it wasn't connecting, the little hard drive image had the red cross through it instead of being green. I right clicked on it to see if I could trouble shoot it, however I accidently clicked 'disconnect' and now the drive is gone from My Computer.
If someone could please tell me how to get it back I would really appreciate it!! There is no IT guy around to help and I really need to get on the server!
Thanks,

Sharing my files to other computers Via internet?
-I've got a project but one of the people I'm working with currently resides across the Atlantic ocean, what is the best free program i can use to upload and download files i post. I don't want to email things because this is a bi-daily file sharing situation.
An example of a situation would be, I have a 2gb file that needs to go to Europe. I upload the file to (insert program) and my associate downloads my file, safe, secure, and most of all free.
Thanks for any help.Instead of a program, consider going with an online storage site. Microsoft's skydrive.live.com offers you 50 gb of space on the Internet. You can transfer files up to the site, place them into password protected folders (should you need to share with more than one person) and then the other person can go to your site, enter the password, and download the file.
No need to have a special software. Nothing to download or install. You can access the files from any computer with a browser and an Internet connection. You also have the option of leaving files out there for a long time, while with most transfer programs as soon as the person takes the file it is gone from the inbox.A program that I use is DropBox.
Fast and free.
The free version only has 2GB of space though.
Hope it works out!

How to set up a LAN with a router but no Internet?
-Well here's what in thinking. I've got a couple of old computer's, with some really great games on 'em. I want to connect them all through a LAN network, but i wont be getting internet for several weeks. I have a router, but no internet. Is there any way I can connect them all to the router and then play them over LAN?Yes. Simply attach each of the computers to the router with an ethernet cable. The router will assign each of them an internal IP address (usually begins with 192.168.xxx.xxx.) Once they have an IP they will be joined in a LAN. If you then want to play games between the computers, you simply enter the IP address of the other computer into the appropriate option in the game and you are ready to play. No Internet access is normally required to play LAN games. In fact, they were around for over a decade before the Internet was even invented.Just in case you're not familiar with sharing file across Windows PCs, beside setting up your LAN, you need to follow Microsoft's procedure on "sharing files across Windows workgroups". Go to Microsoft Support site and search for that phrase for the version of Windows you have.
Yes, just connect them to the router via ethernet cables or wireless if you're using a wireless router. There's nothing more to it.

What is ICMP redirect? and what is Proxy ARP?
-Hi Not sure about how boths works..... can anyone please explainme how do they work? what is the difference? thanskThe ICMP Redirect message is only sent in the following situation:
1. Host A is sending a packet to Host B. Host A's default IP router is router R1. Because Host B is a remote host, Host A forwards the packet destined for Host B to its default router R1.
2. R1 checks its routing table and finds that the next hop for the route to the network for Host B is router R2.
3. If Host A and R2 are on the same network that is also directly attached to R1, an ICMP Redirect message is sent to Host A informing it that R2 is the better route when sending to Host B.
4. Router R1 then forwards the IP datagram to R2.
5. Host A adds a host route to its routing table for Host B's IP address with router R2's IP address as the forwarding address. Subsequent datagrams from Host A to Host B are forwarded by means of router R2.
To better understand how proxy ARP works, below is an example of an interaction between two hosts: Host A in Subnet A and Host C in Subnet B.
1. Host A needs to send packets to Host B. Host A believes that it is directly connected to Host B鈥檚 subnet so Host A sends an ARP request to Host B.
2. In order for Host A to connect to Host B, Host A should first determine Host C鈥檚 MAC address. To do this, Host A broadcasts a new ARP request on Subnet A.
3. The ARP request is included in an Ethernet frame with Host A鈥檚 MAC address. The ARP request reaches all nodes in Subnet A, including the interface of the router. The request, however, does not actually reach Host B.
4. The router then replies to Host A with the router鈥檚 own MAC address. This is called the proxy ARP reply given by the router to Host A.
5. Host A then updates its ARP table. It sends the packets to the router, then the router forwards the packets to Host B.
No more confusions :)

2 computers on wireless network and one doesn't connect now. Help, please!?
-Ok, I have a Netgear router in the basement that splits to different things throughout the house (x-box, Dish DVR, etc) and also to a brainless wireless router upstairs. We have two laptops and both connected just fine to the network until a couple of days ago. The older laptop works fine but the newer one connects to the wireless router but doesn't connect to the internet. I tried connecting hard wire from the laptop to the Netgear router in the basement and still the same thing. No problems connecting to the internet with anything else in the house. The newer laptop is running Vista and there haven't been any new downloads lately or new programs. I also did a system restore to about 3 weeks ago before the problem started and still the same thing. I could understand if the wireless card went bad then it would not connect to the wireless router at all. Just baffles me to no end. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. It could be the Wireless LAN Adapter has stopped working.
My mother got a brand new desktop with a built-in Wireless Adapter and a month or so it went out.
I'm not sure how she fixed the problem, but that could be the reason it's not working.
Check your network adapters in your Device Manager, see if the drivers are still there. You may need to reinstall them. you may have lost your driver when you did a system restore. Its just a guess Another guess is , do you have your wireless button on your laptop turned off? They are easy to bump and turn off if you arent carefull ,, just picking it up to go to a different room or something simple like that could do it if you put your thumb in the wrong place,,,another thing to check is open your web browser and make sure the "Work Offline" box isnt checked.

Can i convert a Lan port into an Ethernet port?
-Hi can any help me with this?? due to my Laptop breaking i have had to go back to using my old PC but i have not used it for some time & since i last used it i have changed my internet provider to Sky, when i wired it up today & attempted to connect the router i found that my PC does not have an Ethernet port, it has the old telephone Lan port, i have heard that there is an adapter that will convert the lan port to an Ethernet port but i have looked on Ebay & cant seem to find 1 there seems to be alot of USB to Lan converters, i dont think that is what i need?? as i need to convert my Lan to Ethernet, i have no computer knowledge so any help would be great.
thank youIf you have a USB port you can use an USB to Ethernet port adapter.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_ov鈥?/a>
"The ability to connect Ethernet devices via USB ports is known as Ethernet over USB. There are many low-cost commercial adapters available to do this. The links below describe the technical details on how the technology works." . . . .
You can order one for one dollar from www.ebay.com :
http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-RJ45-Card-Lan-10鈥?/a>
you can get an ethernet card and switch out the modem port go to a pc repair parts shop you should be able to pick one up really cheap maybe $5 if you are not good with computers bring it in and they will do it for you they will probably charge you $30-40 though if they have to do the work. however it's really not to hard you take the case cover off and the ethernet card plugs into the motherboard like a cartridge. here's an instructional video on how to install the card

Those are the same thing. Telephone ports are not "lan" ports. Telephone ports are RJ-12, lan/ethernet ports are RJ-45. There is no converter from telephone/modem jack to ethernet port. The old computer needs an ethernet card which will have a lan/ethernet/rj-45 jack.
"Lan" means local area network, and those use Ethernet as their protocol.
Helm Marie! I'm afraid you've mistaken it for a LAN port.. Telephone cable port you see is not a LAN port though it looks like one.. It uses a different kind of RJ cable, and hence won't work good for your computer.. By d way, LAN and Ethernet ports mean the same..
thank youIf you have a USB port you can use an USB to Ethernet port adapter.

How do I connect my phone to a locked Wi-Fi?
-I'm spending the next couple of days at my Grandparents and am wanting to connect to their Wi-Fi on my phone. However, it's locked... and they're sleeping. I was wondering if anyone knew how to locate the password on their computer?ok, so there's this thing called an "internet router" or just "router" connected to the computer and its this small box that has all these wires connecting to and from the internet and some other wires. anyway, if you lift up the box, theres a long line of numbers and letters, that is the password.
http://networkcable-tester.com/wp-conten鈥?/a>
it might look similar to this, just lift it up and look for the password
if they have a computer laying around thats already hooked up or if your can connect a laptop you have to there router than go to the default router configuration page(for me its 192.168.0.1 but it changes) and look for something allong the lines of you guessed it:"Password:"
Pretty much I think you need the password

Connecting to the internet?
-i just got my modem from AT&T..i set up the modem exactly how its suppose to. and when i open a web browser, it should automatically go to the at&t page for me to enter some information..however the page keeps goin to a page saying "unable to connect to server" how can i fix this?wow , check your network adapter cards, be sure the drivers are installed. did you setup your encryption? In the lower right hand of your computer can you click there in the navigation pane and find your list of available networks? If you can , can you connect to yours?
Call AT&T. They may not even have the service started yet.

Why is my wireless network disappearing?
-I have a very strange issue and I believe is on the computers end and not an issue with the router. What happens is my wireless network will disappear from the list of available networks, and when this occurs I am unable to access the network on three other devices (Ipod touch x2, and laptop). I am still able to see other networks in my area when this occurs. My first thought was the router, but I discovered something else that is interesting. When I log off or reset the desktop the network comes up immediately on the other devices. I also found that removing the network on the desktop under manage wireless networks fixes the issue. I watch my ipod touch and see the network come up within a second after pressing log off on the desktop. I am a fairly experienced with computer repair and actually have worked in the business, but this one has me stumped. So far I removed the wireless driver and installed the most up to date driver from the manufacturers website. I am thinking that the next step would be replacing the wireless card, or formatting the computer. I am running win 7 32 bit on this machine.
RJ45 wireless sender?
-Hi, i was wondering if i can get some sort of RJ45 connection hub, to send a wireless signal to my laptop.
I havent got a wireless router or anything, all the computers are connect by the rj45 wire. I just want a wireless sender to plug into my spliter, if you get me?
ThanksI THINK i get what your saying your going to need a wirless switch to do that. go to walmart and buy a wifi router. then what your going to want to do is secure it and then share you folders that you want to share here is a review of what i am talking about
your Computer cables rj45 will be connected to the wirless router turn sharing on, on all your computers. It will reconize your folders your trying to share. you don't have to secure your sharing just secure your router when you get it.
Option 2. you MIGHT can buy a linksys gaming adapter and plug in the "HUB IN TO IT AND IT WILL ALLOW ALL OF THEM TO BE WIFIED UP." I never tried that method but it might work also.
You need a wireless bridge.
Also know as an Access Point that MUST be capable of "client mode."

Does this mean my router is bad?
-Lately I've been experiencing problems with my wireless internet connection. I've found it almost unbearable to do anything such as stream netflix, watch videos, play games, even browse the internet. I pinged myself in command prompt and I saw huge spikes of lag going up to 1500 ms every few times. These random lag spikes have never happened in the past and have been going on for about a month. Does that mean my router is bad, or what? Thanks guys. Oh; my isp is Road Runner and my speedtest results are 3mbits down and .40 mbits upSounds more like a latency issue. Try doing a tracert to a website on the internet. It will tell you where the lag is happening on your network. Look for any asteriks or time out these indicate slow connections at particular routers. Also reboot your entire network, if you havent tried that alerady. Unscrew the coaxle cable from the roadrunner modem and leave it out for a minute before you screw it back in. Since you have wireless also make sure that your connection is secure and that no one is piggybacking on your bandwidth.
Hope this helps

How do i look up someones location with an IP?
-I was hacked on a game and the game has last login IP address and i would like to know where it was from.Go to www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm
This will give you the general location, not his exact location. You would need a court order to get more.
Try out with IP trackers:
http://www.ipaddresslocation.org
http://www.ip-address.org
http://www.find-ip-address.org
Just do a search with the IP. The information is public and there are websites that will tell you the region and ISP.
There is a website that lets you do that. You have to google "look up ip address" it should be the first or second

How can this be set up?
-Okay, I have a friend that is trying to set up a wireless router inside a rented office suite. She already has a router, but the internet connection is a shared T1 line and there is an Ethernet port inside the suite. Can he set up a wireless network inside this suite and how?
Does Hughes Net work with an at&t wifi router?

Associates Degree in Microsoft Networking Technology or Cisco Networking Technology?
-Which is more "in demand" as far as jobs are concerned. I need help choosing one before i start college. Thanks! You should get BOTH. Some classes in the degrees will over lap each other.
And don't work on the degree all together.
Get a smaller 12 unit - 15 unit certificate ( if your college offers them) it will only take you a semester to get the certificate, and get a job.My college calls them "network administration essentials", its 12 units ( 4 classes), these units in the certificate are also required in the degrees. The units for the certification will be the same classes you will need for the MIcrosoft and Cisco networking degrees. Then do all other computer classes. Then general education classes.
This way you can get your ahead, have a job, and experience before you are out of college!I would consider the cisco degree more general although you will probably end up with a bunch of proprietary cisco propaganda. Being more general, I would consider it preferable unless you know you want to work for a microsoft shop.
The courses may have a lot of overlap since the microsoft course has to run on someone's brand of network and the cisco course would not be very interesting if you didn't have any hosts.
I read an article today that said net admins were going to be more in demand with cloud computing and net engineers less. My opinion is the exact opposite. Go with what you'd enjoy more!
edit: Not that I think cloud computing is going to be the only game in town. Just the most recent job outlook article I've seen :)
edit2: Network admin, despite the title, focuses more on administering users of the network than the network itself. (In my experience) So the MS course path would be better or a linux path. the network portion of a net admin is more about DHCP, DNS, and such than routing tables and switch configs.
i dont know much about the microsoft cert but i will say i was enrolled in the cisco networking academy and i do know that the CCENT and CCNA certifications look great on a resume
Do you want to work on servers or network infrastructure (routers, switches, etc...).
Server = Microsoft
Infrastructure = Cisco
Either will get your foot in the door, however.

Will my toshiba L650 converts digital to analog signal by itself?
-Hi
i got a toshiba L650 with hdmi port. And,i got a normal tv with audio video slots.
I wanna see movie on my tv which is played from my laptop.
So,i would need an HDMI audio video cable which is available in market.
But,the cable alone wont convert digital to analog. Is my computer able to covert on its own?I couldnt find this data from manual.
The device to convert digital to analog is expensive.

What is a personal home web server?
-I have been thinking about setting up a home web server for a while. However, I do not know any information about this. I know I can access my home files and etc on other places. I also believe that it requires an always on internet connection, but, what does that mean? Should I leave my computer on all the time or does it mean keep my router/modem on and the internet flowing? Also, is a personal home web server free?
In addition, I have XAMPP control panel downloaded, will these two conflict with each other?PWS, an abbreviation for Personal Web Server, is Microsoft's version of a Web server program for individual PC users who want to share Web pages and other files from their hard drive. PWS is a scaled-down version of Microsoft's more robust Web server, Internet Information Server IIS. PWS can be used with a full-time Internet connection to serve Web pages for a Web site with limited traffic. It can also be used for testing a Web site offline or from a "staging" site before putting it on a main Web site that is exposed to larger traffic.
PWS can be used together with Microsoft's FrontPage, a Web site design product, to upload Web pages from a remote location or to the local hard drive; to check for dead links; to create directories; and to set permissions. PWS is frequently used as part of the trend toward peer-to-peer exchange and publishing.
The equivalent program for the Macintosh is called Personal Web Sharing.
