Why is my internet speed so slow?

-So I just dropped AT&T as my ISP, and switched to broadband. They told me my download speed would be 15mbps (2mbps upload speed) (through a cable connection I believe). They came and set it up with a new modem, etc, and yet I checked my speed from 3 different sources (one was a game installer which tells you how fast the game downloads, and the other two were online internet speed tests) and I'm only getting around 3/4 of a megabyte and 1.2 mbps.... so that's like.... 15 times as slow as it should be. And I just had them come back and check and they left (I wasn't home, but someone else was) and low and behold it is still hovering just around 1.5mbps.... so what is the problem? Is it just them not knowing how to do their jobs or what? What should I do to fix this problem? Do I need to call the company again?You're not reporting your units accurately, so it's really hard to make sense of your problem. mbps, Mbps, and MB/sec are all completely different units.



15Mbps, which is your line speed, is about equal to 1.7MB/s. When you download something, your speed is generally reported in MB/s (or MB/sec), not Mbps. Line speeds and download rates are not the same. Decimal units and binary units are not the same. Bits and bytes are not the same. It is important to report units *exactly* as shown.



Go back and look at the download speeds. I bet you'll find they're MB/s or MB/sec and not Mbps.Configure the network settings properly. For example, only enable those web features that you really require. If you are an advanced user, you may do this task manually. Or otherwise, it is suggested to use an internet optimizer software. Using Reginout internet optimizer, select your internet speed, then click Analyze | Optimize.



You have to disable the unwanted add-ons and extensions. Open Internet Explorer, click Tools | Manage Add-Ons. Select an add-on that you don't require, and click "Disable" button.
if you have a wireless router make no one is on your network and contact your provide again the problem is on there end threaten to cancel service if they can not offer the speed they promised
1.5mbps that's incredibley slow
