I have no local area connection?

-I am trying to connect to my internet via an ethernet cable, i have always used a wireless adaptor but since changing to sky my internet is so slow, i want to try a wired connection. But i plugged in the ethernet and nothing happened, going off some advice ive seen online i opened 'network connections' and there is no local area connection. In my device manager there is something called ''Realtek Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC'' and it says 'driver cannot start' can anyone help? im not very good at computer stuff so please explain it like im 5 or something... thank you :)If you have a tower or a desktop try this. Turn off the computer, switch off at the mains press the "on" button on the tower or desktop to discharge any remaining power. Switch on the power at the mains and turn on your PC and see if it is cured.

If that fails I would go back to device manager and update the drivers to the newest, they can be had from the Realtek website you will need the exact model of your NIC

You have to configure both the modem and your computer.
