People run there controllers(computers) to the server(xbox) and they play it threw there. for example online COD. It hosts the website or game server. Its a rally point to converge it all together when playing. A server can also host a website, same thing, they get the info from this server instead of getting it from your computer. Lynx is a type of gaming server.
A game server is the "thing" (poorly put) that transfers all the game info to gland from who ever is playing that game. So say you are playing blacks and ur dead. The server transmits what going on on you teammates screen to you (spectating)
