Broadband usage way too high!Help!?

-My broadband usage seems way too high. yesterday it said 14.85 gigs used and now it says 16.77 gigs used. i haven't downloaded anything at all so how is this possible. also it says i have been on 298 hours since 1st july. that's about 22 hours a day! wtf is going on

Please help, last month i went 20 gigs over the limit!Do a test - turn off all devices that are connected to your network and figure out what's eating up your data. Remember devices such as PS3 / net-TV that also use your broadband.

Access your router's software via a web-browser and see the devices that connect to it.

Make sure you are using a secure password so that no neighbours are spunging off you!

BActually you are giving no information on exactly what you are doing

and it's obvious you are on a very low cap allowance.

If your browser [and it doesn't matter what one you are using] is closed

then you are NOT connected to the internet.

Yes the modem may be on all the time but all it's doing is pinging the

servers to keep the connection open. It doesn't use any data for that.

The only thing that would record any data usage would be any

automatic OS and program updates.

If your using a wireless connection are you getting piggybacked?

In other words, have you a wide open connection that anyone

can just log onto because that's what that looks like to me?
do you have WIFI on your router

if yes

is it password protected

if no somebody is accessing you router

conatct provider to find out how

wi-fi is upto 20 meters so somebody in you vivcinity is accessing you broadband free of charge
if its shown in lac tab in ur pc ,ders a possib that it aint correct

somtims u conect a min bak and it shows connectn time - 1 hr

if u watch vids online then prob try reducn their resolutn which wud reduce ur data consumptn
