10Mbps vs. 100Mbps speed - cause for alarm?

-My Dell Latitude D610 usually showed a network connection speed of 100Mbps prior to me reinstalling XP a few months ago. Since then, it's only showed a speed of 10Mbps - and I'm using the exact same network driver. I'm connected to a 2Wire modem from AT&T. Can someone shed some light on this issue? Maybe I'm missing something...Since you re-installed XP, that means the drivers may be older, and it may not follow the proper handshaking for 100mbps.

Check for and update the network adapter drivers. You say your are using the "same", but a fresh install of XP will put in older drivers, and you have to go to Windows update or the vendor's site, to download the latest drivers.
If your internet speed is above 10Mbps, then yes, it could be a problem. You might want to check the settings on your driver to see if you can change it to 100Mbps.

If your internet speed is below 10Mbps, don't worry about it.
